To diagnose an elevator correctly, you need data from inside the car — not just from the control system. Huginn is the sensor module that mounts on the car roof and collects information no other part of the system can see: how the car actually moves, how long the automatic door takes to open and close, and whether vibrations occur that do not belong in a normal travel cycle.
This data is transmitted via RS-485 Modbus RTU to the Hermod field unit at the elevator and onward to the Heimdal server. There, patterns are analyzed and used as the basis for diagnostic support and alarm handling — all without a single measurement leaving the building.
Huginn is configured wirelessly via Bluetooth. The technician uses a phone or tablet to set measurement parameters and update firmware — no service cable needed, no enclosure covers to open, no work in confined spaces on the car roof.
Features
- Vibration measurement — detects abnormal movements in the car during travel
- Door sensor satellites — up to 2 satellites (one per door side) connected via USB-C cable
- Magnetic field door detection — records opening, closing, and travel time without mechanical contact
- RS-485 Modbus RTU — robust, isolated communication to Hermod
- Bluetooth configuration — set up and update wirelessly without a service cable
- Compact car roof mounting — does not affect elevator function or interior finish
- Industrial construction — withstands temperature variation and electromagnetic interference
Door sensor satellites
Huginn supports up to two door sensor satellites — one per door side. The satellites connect via USB-C cable and are mounted at each automatic door. They detect door movements via magnetic field without requiring contact with the door mechanism. This data enables detailed tracking of every door cycle: opening time, closing time, and any deviations that may indicate worn runners, guide shoes, or door mechanism components in need of service.
Part of the Heimdal system
Huginn is part of the Heimdal system and works together with the Hermod field unit. Huginn supplies the raw data; Hermod transports it; the Heimdal server analyzes and presents it.
Who it’s for
Huginn is included in all Heimdal installations that require sensor data from the elevator car. It is designed for hospitals and critical facilities but suits any environment where deeper insight into the elevator’s actual behavior is desired — beyond what the control system can report.
Status
Huginn is under active hardware development as part of the Heimdal system.
